As a unique tuition organisation, our cardinal principle is to promote education at all levels in ways that lead to its gainful application in as many life contexts as possible. We believe that education gives the best chance of success if applied effectively. To promote this idea successfully, there is an absolute need to exhibit sound education in the team at Legacy Education. One such shining example can be found in the founder and director of this organisation. It is therefore a profound joy to report his success in education as he studied and was awarded a PhD degree in media and communications at the University of Stirling in November 2022.
Born to a humble family, Dr Hayford has risen through the rigorous processes and enviable ranks of education to its highest level. This encouraging academic achievement seems to paint a rosy picture of his life throughout the process. Contrary to that, he narrates a very challenging life as a student. According to the director and scholar, he gave up almost everything to achieve this doctorate degree, except God the almighty.
‘I lost some good friends and the chance to work descent jobs due to time requirement… I needed to dedicate considerable hours for studies. I painfully denied myself of a lot of life’s pleasures. There were countless moments when I considered abandoning the idea of further studies but I hanged in there for just one reason’.
This demonstrates the significance of education to him as an individual, ready to give up everything but the one imperative tool for an impactful life.
But what was that one thing that sustained his will to complete his studies? It was more communally driven than for self, he disclosed to The Legacy Post. He thought about the many lives that would depend on his qualification; he reflected on the fact that he would be included in the statistics of ‘failed’ students and may miss the chance to use his life as a tool for positive attitude towards education if he didn’t soldier on.
As The Legacy Post gathers, Dr Hayford’s notion of community-mindedness was acquired in his early years at university in Ghana. As a freshman on campus, he was immediately attracted to a student-based organisation known at the time as ‘Student in Free Enterprise’ (SIFE), now known as ‘Enactus’. SIFE or Enactus develops leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing, and teaching the principles of free enterprise to college and university students. Since the moment he joined, Dr Hayford has kept faith with this philosophy, by constantly identifying genuine community problems with the mind set to find lasting solutions.
He aims to imbibe in every young person he comes across the spirit and mind set to also identify and try to solve community problems. In view of this, it appears Dr Hayford is attempting to connect with the Bible saying that ‘it is better to give than to receive’. In this sense, it is better for one to strive, where possible, to give to society than willingly adding on problems. We can witness this philosophy strongly at play in the aims and actions of the team at Legacy Education Tools, one of which is to help enlighten young persons, and by so doing, keeping them out of trouble on the streets.
The team strongly believes that, an enlightened mind is one that can apply sound knowledge to transform challenges into solutions, it is one that can shed ‘light’ powerful enough to help others, as well as themselves, to see the blurry boundaries between good and bad choices. In other words, it is the mind that can bring ‘light’ to overcome an identified area of darkness. We rest not until such legacies are bequeathed to the next generation.
